The lower half of the urban park is transformed into a new SPORTS AND THERAPY COMPLEX. This new facility will serve the recreational needs of this underserved community and the healing mission of the national institutions in the vicinity. These include: the CHILDREN’S NATIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, the NATIONAL REHABILITATION HOSPITAL, the WASHINGTON MEDICAL CENTER, the VETERAN’S AFFAIRS MEDICAL CENTER, the NATIONAL ORTHOPEDIC CENTER and the HOWARD UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. It integrates both the historic fabric and new interventions and occupies the three cells to the west.
The valley in-between the two undulating roofs can become an outdoor performance area for concerts plays and dances.
